UnitPilot Privacy Policy

UnitPilot ("the extension") is a Chrome extension built by an independent developer that adds productivity tools to AppFolio Property Manager and Buildium. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by AppFolio, Inc. or Buildium, LLC.

The short version

Everything you create in UnitPilot (notes, snippets, favourites, custom links, settings and the list of pages you've visited) is stored only in your browser, using Chrome's chrome.storage.local.
UnitPilot has no servers and no analytics. We never see your data, your tenants' data, or the pages you visit.
The only network requests are license key checks with Dodo Payments, our payment provider and merchant of record, and only if you enter a Pro license key.

What the extension accesses

UnitPilot runs only on pages at https://*.appfolio.com/* and https://*.managebuilding.com/* (excluding public marketing, vendor, resident and owner portals). On those pages it:

reads page titles, URLs and headings to remember pages you visit, so the command palette can find them;
reads tables and grids only when you choose to export them, and turns them into a file saved to your computer or text copied to your clipboard;
watches text you type into form fields only to detect snippet triggers (such as ;late) and replace them with your template. Typed text is not stored or sent anywhere. Password fields are ignored.

None of this information leaves your browser.

Data stored locally

Exports and backups are files you download; they go wherever you save them.

Payments and license checks (Dodo Payments)

Pro subscriptions are sold by Dodo Payments, which is the merchant of record and processes payments. When you buy Pro, Dodo Payments collects your name, email address, billing address and payment details on its own checkout page, under its own privacy policy (https://dodopayments.com/privacy-policy). UnitPilot never sees your card details.

After purchase you receive a license key. When you enter it in UnitPilot's settings, the license key is sent to Dodo Payments to validate it: the extension sends the license key to Dodo Payments' public License API (live.dodopayments.com; test builds use test.dodopayments.com) together with a device label such as "UnitPilot on Mac (a1b2c3)" (a random identifier, not your computer's name). Dodo Payments replies with an activation id for this browser and the product name and purchaser name/email on the order; these are stored locally so the Plan tab can show them. The extension then re-validates the key (key + activation id) about once a day, and contacts Dodo Payments again if you click Deactivate on this device. If you never enter a key, the extension makes no network requests at all.

No property, tenant, page or browsing data is ever sent to Dodo Payments.

What we do not do

We do not sell, rent or share data with anyone.
We do not use data for advertising, credit-worthiness or lending decisions.
We do not load remote code.
We do not collect personally identifiable information, health, financial or authentication information, personal communications, location or web history on any server of our own. (Purchase details are held by Dodo Payments as described above.)

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

The use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this URL with a new "Last updated" date.
